Nicki was diagnosed in 2010 after an unexpected illness with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). She began peritoneal dialysis in March 2014 and received a living donor kidney transplant in November 2014 from her brother, Andrew Burgess.
Nicki is passionate about improving the health outcomes of poeple with CKD living in rural, regional and remote areas of Australia. Currently Nicki works for the Centre for Kidney Research at the University fo Sydney. In 2022 she recieved her Doctor of Philosopy (Medicine) at The University of Sydney, where her thesis was Improving access to Dialysis and Transplantation for rural patients with CKD.
For the past 6 years Nicki has een volunteering to help people with CKD and has recieved numerous awards for this including:
